Ribbon Wrapped Christmas Ornament

Handmade ornaments are a great way to add a personal touch to your holiday decor, and they’d make a great gift for a friend or family member.
The ribbon adds a simple beauty to your ornament and makes for an inexpensive,
yet beautiful craft project.
Ribbon Wrapped Christmas Ornament

Supplies:
Medium Styrofoam Ball
Ribbon (I used 32″ of 3/8″ Grosgrain Christmas Stripe Holiday Traxx Ribbon, 32″ of 5/8″ Emerald Solid Grosgrain Ribbon, 32″ of 3/8″ White Solid Grosgrain Ribbon, 32″ of 3/8″ Apple Green Solid Grosgrain Ribbon, and 32″ of 1/4″ Red Satin-Double Faced Ribbon)
5″ Coordinating Ribbon for hanger
Scissors
Glue Gun
Glue Sticks
Gather your supplies and your chocolate and let’s get started!

Take your ribbon and wrap it around the Styrofoam ball once. Measure its length and cut your ribbon, allowing for a little extra to overlap.
Using that measurement, cut 4 strips of each ribbon to size.
I cut my ribbons to 8″ in length, but be sure to measure because I’m sure that not all medium Styrofoam balls are the same size.

Glue down one end of your ribbon to the Styrofoam ball, wrap it tightly around the ball and
glue down the other end, overlapping the first end.
I found that thinner ribbon works best, so I started with my thickest ribbon first.


Glue down your next ribbon, wrapping it across the length of the first.

Continue gluing and wrapping the ribbon around your ball until you’ve glued down all four ribbons.

Move on to your next ribbon and repeat the previous steps until you’ve filled in all of the gaps.

Cut a 5″ strip of ribbon for your hanger.
Glue the ends together and glue down to the top of the ornament.

You could be done at this point, but I added a little bow to mine for a cute finishing touch.

Now your ornament is ready to hang on your Christmas tree!

You can adapt your ornament for the theme of your tree or the person you’re giving it to with different colors of ribbon.
You could also use fabric strips, tulle, netting, ric rac, lace, zippers, buttons,
whatever you would like.
The sky’s the limit!
After making my first one I decided to make two more, that way I could give one to each of my kids.

I wanted a different look for my son’s ornament.
Basically I just wrapped the ribbon around the Styrofoam ball randomly and glued it as I cut.
I attached a basic knot to the top.
As cute as the korker and loopy bows are, I don’t think he would have been too thrilled with one!
I thought about adding their first initials to their ornaments.
Wouldn’t bottle caps with images look cute?
